The effects of racism are no naked things to Dr. Frances Henderson, a mother, grand-mother and professor in African-American literature in plaza Tennessee State University and Fisk University. Growing up in the north, in Cincinnati, Ohio in the 60s and later migrating to Nashville, Tennessee in the southern in the 80s, she experience the effects of racism at both ends of the spectrum. Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio in the 60s and 70s, she was familiar with the Underground Railway System, a body of communication whereby slaves running away from slavery in the southeastward, travel to towns in the North where they were given food and wearable at enlighten stops by sympathetic state. Her hometown, Cincinnati was the setoff train stop across the Southern border. However, even though the North was considered a haven from the slavery and racial oppression in the South, thither were still a lot of people in Cincinnati, who still had the old ways of thinking rough African-Americans only when never openly showed it. As such, growing up, she undergo a more than covert form of racism which was more savage and insidious than the form of racism occurring in the South principally because it was never shown at the surface level. The type of racism she experienced was more institutionalize and even though her family belonged to the hurrying nub class of the society, there were still many instances where they experienced institutionalized racism at one point or the other.
